OPERATION ICE HOUSE
As the off-campus Ice House Building renovation ended, I got ready for a grand opening celebration featuring Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. Secrecy surrounding the event brought to mind a clandestine operation at a faraway location. My ceremonial flyby for virtual reality commemorated his visit.
I spoke with Governor McAuliffe about the Innovation Space, its cramped facilities and project backlog. My thinly disguised pitch led the Governor to express hope that our program would create job opportunities for Virginians.
Surging demand for my concept visualization service led to criticism I was diverting funding away from male-dominated hackerspaces on campus, also called STEM labs. At the Ice House Innovation Space, everyone received expert advice on computer-aided design and rapid prototyping.
