OPERATION ICE HOUSE
As the off-campus Ice House Building renovation ended, I got ready for a grand opening celebration featuring Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. The unadvertised event brought to mind a clandestine operation at a faraway location. My ceremonial flyby for virtual reality commemorated his visit.
I spoke with Governor McAuliffe about the Ice House Innovation Space, its cramped facilities and project backlog. My thinly disguised pitch led the Governor to express hope that our program would create job opportunities for Virginians.
Along with growing demand for my concept visualization service came unfounded complaints it diverted funding away from male-dominated hackerspaces on campus, also called STEM labs. Only at the Innovation Space could any student get practical advice on computer-aided design and rapid prototyping.
