LATE CAREER

At my studios adjacent to the university, I make art with XR devices and CNC machines. I shoot aerial photographs cruising through hand-crafted and procedural landscapes, and I make murals compositing three-dimensional CGI with panoramas from robotic cameras. Exploring traditional figuration with contemporary tools, I use augmented reality to overlay spatially anchored 3D meshes on plaster and clay, and I previsualize challenging poses on a PC with skeletal rigging.

For interaction design and concept visualization, I develop AI instructors and guides for immersive environments, expressing my ideas at international conferences with 3D illustrated presentations.

In May 2018, I presented The ChemSim-VR Prototype at the annual Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Computing In Education (AACE) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The paper, "A Virtual Reality Teaching And Learning Environment For Chemistry" appears in the conference proceedings. In September, I presented "BOXXER: A Virtual Reality Spatial Ability App" at the annual e‑Learning Conference of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Virginia Beach, USA, where it was voted Best Industrial e‑Learning Product by conference attendees.

In June 2019, I introduced attendees of the NATO Training Technology Conference to "ODS CGI", a method of making codeless virtual reality products. In October, at the annual Conference of the International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) in Leuven, Belgium, I presented "Designing A Virtual Reality Teaching And Learning Environment For Chemistry". In September 2020, I talked about "Reading 3D Visuals In Virtual Reality" at the IVLA Conference held on-line during the COVID-19 crisis.

Following a design competition at Qualcomm in 2021, I was offered a grant to develop spatial ability apps for their augmented reality reference glasses. At the 2022-2023 IVLA Art Exhibition in Jyväskylä, Finland, I presented "Bendtwist III", a virtual reality site-specific sculpture and mental rotation experiment. This book is another a product of my late career.
